Experience Panama Like a Traveler: A Memorable Adventure with Travel Jones

What’s the best way to celebrate friendship and love? For me, it turned out to be an unforgettable all-inclusive getaway to Panama with my dear friends Alvin and Stephanie. As a seasoned traveler and travel advisor, I wanted to do something special to honor their union—especially since I completely missed getting them a wedding gift years back (terrible friend alert!). So, when Alvin casually texted to ask if I had any interest in Panama, I had the perfect plan up my sleeve.

What they didn’t know was that I intended to foot the bill, taking them on a curated adventure exploring the vibrant beauty of Panama City, indulging in luxury at The Westin Playa Bonita, and diving headfirst into culture and nature. Here’s how our journey unfolded…

The Westin Playa Bonita: Paradise Awaits

The Westin Playa Bonita was our base, and talk about paradise! Think tropical views of the Pacific Ocean, sprawling outdoor pools, and palm tree-lined lounging areas that screamed relaxation. The resort’s all-inclusive setup spoiled us with gourmet dining options, refreshing cocktails, and spa treatments that could make anyone forget their worries.

It even had activities like beach yoga and kayaking for the restless adventurers among us (ahem, me). But here’s the thing: While I completely understand why some people would spend the entire trip soaking up the resort’s amenities, I had other plans in mind. Panama City was calling, and as always, I answered with gusto!

Panama City: A Feast for the Senses

It’s difficult to describe Panama City without getting lost in its vibrant energy. The city is an eclectic mix of modern skyscrapers and historic charm, all set against a backdrop of lush tropical greenery and the famous Panama Canal. From the cobbled streets of Casco Viejo (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to the buzzing nightlife downtown, Panama City is a treat for every travel-loving soul.

Our adventure began with a stroll through Casco Viejo, where Alvin and Stephanie couldn’t stop marveling at the colonial architecture. Peppered with cafés, boutique shops, and beautifully restored plazas, this area felt like a cultural heartbeat.

“Panama City: where skyscrapers kiss the tropical skies, the rainforest whispers secrets nearby, and the canal connects your wanderlust to the world.”

– Aaron

An unexpected surprise awaited us when a host outside a restaurant turned into our impromptu tour guide. His enthusiasm and knowledge gave us a deeper appreciation for the city’s history—even though we were on a hunt for food and nightlife! After Alvin tipped him for his generosity, we headed straight to CasaCasco.

CasaCasco: Rooftop Nightlife Heaven

CasaCasco left us starry-eyed—literally! This multi-level hotspot offers panoramic views of Panama City’s skyline from its rooftop bar, and the vibe here is electric. Think live music, exquisite cocktails, and a crowd ready to dance the night away. It was the perfect way to experience Panama’s nightlife, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

A Dinner Guest Unlike Any Other: The Sloth Encounter

The resort wasn’t done surprising us. As we returned to The Westin Playa Bonita for dinner, Stephanie casually mentioned wanting to see a sloth close up. And like magic—or something out of a travel fairytale—a sloth wandered up to our table! It was one of those moments that makes you stop and appreciate the unexpected beauty of travel and adventure. Everyone at the restaurant was equally amazed, but Stephanie especially was thrilled.

Exploring Nature: Gamboa Rainforest Reserve

If you think Panama is all about city life, think again. A day trip to the Gamboa Rainforest Reserve introduced us to the natural wonders hidden in this lush region. A guided boat tour of the Panama Canal took us past islands teeming with wildlife. We marveled at the sloth sanctuary, where we learned more about these adorable creatures, and wandered into the butterfly garden, which was like stepping into a kaleidoscope of colors.

The Gamboa Reserve felt like another world compared to the bustling streets of the city, but that’s what makes Panama so special—it’s a destination that offers you both vibrant city life and stunning natural escapes.

The Trip That Had It All

From the luxurious comforts of The Westin Playa Bonita to Panama City’s cultural heartbeat and the tranquil beauty of Gamboa Rainforest, this trip was nothing short of extraordinary. Watching Alvin and Stephanie experience the joy of discovery was worth every effort, and knowing I could give them this experience made me feel truly fulfilled.

Thanks for stopping in, Nina! That sloth that appeared at dinner wasn’t supposed to be there. The staff came and removed it. It actually made me a little sad and I felt bad for it. But for a moment, it was magical!
